BeagleBone Black Running Debian Linux as File Server

BeagleBone Black running debian linux as a samba file server.

I using a base install of debian linux. This embedded version has no GUI/X Windows installed. So you’ll only get a text console.

First install samba:
apt-get -y install samba samba-common-bin

Start samba:
/etc/init.d/samba start

Configure samba:
/etc/samba/smb.conf

Add user and set password:
smbpasswd -a beagle
/etc/init.d/samba restart

Client:
mount -t cifs -o username=beagle,password=xxx,uid=pi,gid=pi //10.0.0.10/beagleboneblackshare mystuff

  1. Because there are 8 bits in a byte, a 100Mbps connection can give a theoretical maximum transfer speed of 12.5MB/s.  Due to header overhead however the practical maximum speed is around 10MB/s.

  2. Hmm My setup is similar to yours and I just wonder what kind of transfer speeds you're getting? I'm only getting 1.9 MB/s and that seems a little slow to me.
