How To — Install Brother Printer Driver in Ubuntu 15.04

How to install the driver for a Brother MFC-J870DW into Ubuntu Linux MATE edition, v. 15.04. Many of the Linux videos I see on YouTube are about how to install distros, but you want to be productive too, so here is my first demo so you can see that you can actually print. Since Brother provides Linux drivers for most of their printers, laser and inkjet, the procedure shown here is basically the same for every printer they make.

This also installs the scanner driver. The scanner demo is here:

  8. Didn't work. Arrrgh! Why must this be so tough??! The driver is in my Downloads folder, but when I run this in Terminal it says "No such file or directory" Everywhere else on the net people are having such easy success installing a Brother printer…but me? Hell no ***UPDATE: I finally got it installed BUT I had to do it a bit differently than you did in the video. I think I just omitted the word "bash" in the command line and it worked. I just kept playing around with it! Thanks for the "bread crumbs" and the lead though! 🙂

  9. Another happy customer. Thanks for your help. I had some trouble with getting my driver recognized, but I followed your cue and played around with formatting the title until it worked. Thanks!
